Welcome to the Government & Politics Department
Have you ever wondered who makes the decisions that decide how your life is
shaped?
Have you ever watched the news and wondered what they were on about?
Have you ever had strong opinions about something?
Have you ever felt out of your depth in conversations with adults?
Do you want to learn how to express your views?
Are you fascinated by current affairs?
Politics has been a popular and very successful A Level. Many of our students
have gone on to study it at university.
Laura French, who is now at York University studying Politics, said:
“Politics was my favourite subject at A level, if you like to argue and are
interested in how your country and other countries are run, politics is a
fantastic opportunity to do so. The trip to the Houses of Parliament is
informative, but also a good day out, we particularly enjoyed pressing Mike
O'Brien on certain issues. There is also great opportunity for rebellion, AS
politics is a great forum for creating Pressure Groups and terrorising
unsuspecting members of staff, whether it be handcuffing yourself to Mr.
Clarke's desk or holding the contents of Mrs. Munn's office for ransom, we
usually get what we want! The members of the politics department are not only
crazy and funny but very supportive and willing to lend their time to any pupil
who wants it; it really is an interesting and worth while subject to take.”
Do Politics and for the rest of your life you will be able to hold your own
in an argument. YOU will be able to hold your own in adult conversations.
